waste of money - poor quality pics and video, bought this to compensate for the poor built-in webcam on toshiba's 755d laptop.
Size isn't always a determining factor, (What's this?) I purchased two of these webcams to use in conference room applications. One proved defective early on, but by the time I got around trying to return it to Amazon the return window had closed. So I had to return it directly to Creative for repair/replacement. Two weeks later, I got a replacement unit.
All in all, I tend to agree with both the positive and negative reviews of this product. As long as you install the Creative software to control this webcam, you'll probably be satisfied with the picture and sound quality. It doesn't seem to do a very good job following people talking: it will pan and zoom all over the place in a large room with many participants with no apparent logic. But viewers tell me they are impressed with the picture and the sound.
It's very wide and hefty, making it a very sturdy addition to a wide screen TV.
Works well once you are up and running, Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) The size is a little larger then normal and I admit it was a little glitchy at first but this could be due to my settings.. once it was up and running though it did a great job and better then most as far as images.
Super Bulky, Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) I thought that this camera would be the best ever based on all the features and the price, but I was wrong. The installation took more than a few minutes to complete because after the software is installed the system will search for updates and download those updates. It takes forever. Once the installation is finished everything seems to move very quickly IF you have Windows 7.
The image is below my expectations. I thought it was the type of light in my room so I moved to the sun room and the quality of the image remained very grainy. I changed the settings with no results.
The kinetic feature is horrible, the camera would not be able to maintain focus unless you would not move at all.I am so frustrated with the performance of this device, it was a complete waste of money. I went back to my old Logitech webcam and have absolutely no problems.
Adequate, not stellar, Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) Physically it works fine, it sits on top of the screen, and mounts well. The software for remote access works well, and the video chat works. The quality is not HD, and it has sluggish video. It is comparable to other cameras that cost less than fifty.
Fabulous Webcam, (What's this?)
Low Quality, Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) With our family out west, we often enjoy webcam chats with them. We've switched to doing our chats via our XBOX Kinect as it follows us well and it is fun to chat in the comfort of our own living room. While the quality wasn't the best, it did the job. Wanting to try something high quality, I tried the Creative Live! Cam InPerson HD Webcam. The results were not impressive.
Setup in Windows 7 was an easy plug in play. Windows Live Messenger found the camera right away and we were on our way to a video chat. The family members on the other end complained of less than HD quality to the chats. I first checked the internet speeds on both ends and both were more than adequate for video chats. Still, nothing HD quality was being presented. Our family members requested that we go back to the Kinect.
The less than stellar video quality is a show stopper here. Plus with the comfort and ease of use of the Kinect video chat, it is kind of hard to go back to webcam chats on the desktop.
Big price. Mediocre video quality. Bloated software., Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) Usually you get what you pay for, but in the case of the "Creative Live! Cam InPerson HD Webcam", you sure don't. My old Creative Cam is several years old. It cost less than $50, has just as good video quality if not better, and is a fraction of the size of this 9" webcam. Out of the box, the Creative Live! Cam InPerson HD Webcam was easy to install, although the included bloated software did take several minutes to install. Getting this huge webcam in an acceptable viewing angle on top of my 22" monitor was a chore. After installing the software, a "check for updates" came up with a driver update, and an update to the "Live! Central 3" software. To give you an idea how bloated the software is, the update was over 400MB. Once everything was installed and updated, I put the camera to the test. What a disappointment. Even in my well lit office, video was grainy, and the camera had trouble maintaining focus. I tried manually changing the cam's settings in an attempt to improve the video quality. Nothing I could do made a major difference. PQ is just mediocre at best. At his price point, this is unacceptable. If this was a $30 webcam, it would be acceptable, but not at well over $100. If you're looking for a high quality webcam, this isn't it. It produces noisy mediocre video. For less than 1/2 the price, you can find cam's that will outperform the "Creative Live! Cam InPerson HD Webcam". Look elsewhere.
Average video, great audio, mixed software (great for kids), Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) I found the video quality on this camera to be quite average. The audio quality is great though. I was previously using a 2 year old Microsoft webcam, and I have been told by people that I Skype with that there definitely is an improvement in the video and audio they are experiencing from my end since switching to this camera. I don't know how the quality compares to other webcams that are out there right now, but I suspect there are better ones at a lower price.
The included Live! Central 3 software is pretty expansive. There are a lot of options for adjusting the video lighting and coloring, as well as panning and zooming. There are also some great noise cancellation and audio focusing options that improve the audio quality even further, depending on your situation and environment. The software also includes lots of fun video affects for the kids, like putting yourself in dopey scenes, or putting glasses and hats on you that automatically track your face. You can also have an "avatar" that tracks your mouth movement and applies it to different characters, like an alien and a cat. Yaay.
There is a streaming video piece to the software that allows you to stream to a mobile device. However, it is developed by a third-party, and anything past their simple free version costs $50-ish (Android price). I couldn't even get it to work because the streamer side that is installed on your computer has a problem, at least when I try it. I go to add my camera, select a name for the camera, and enter a password. The next step is SUPPOSED TO allow you to associate it with your account, but it never shows the field that allows you to enter your account. So I could not even try the mobile streaming because of this. Which is fine, since I find the third-party free version of their software a little questionable when it comes to privacy, security, and encrypted data.
OK video, great audio, useful and fun software (except for the streaming). A bit high on price. Average score.
Sharper than Logitech Pro 9000, (What's this?) Video images appear sharper than my Logitech 9000 Pro and the improvement in sound is much more noticeable. Plugged in a HTPC (core i3 540/4 GB/120 GB SSD, Win 7).
Received a real good deal from here; am very pleased.
